Prayer for MV Princess of the Stars

Friday, June 27, 2008
Let us all unite in prayer and pray for the victims and their families in this very sad tragedy.

Prayer for the MV Princess of the stars fatalities and survivors.

Dear God, we pray that you comfort each bereaved family everyday as they grieved for their loss, we pray that you will supply all their needs, we pray for the survivors that they may have a good life after the tragedy, that you will bless them and let them know in the deepest part of their heart that in spite of what have happened, you LOVE and CARE for them. This we pray in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. I encourage everyone to keep the prayer going.

LET’S P.U.S.H. (PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS). I’m tagging everyone in my bloglist and let us all witness the power of prayer.

Galleons

Wednesday, June 25, 2008
Galleons were huge sailing ships that were built from the mid 1500s onwards. Galleons had tall structures called castles at either end. The front castle was called the forecastle or fo'c'sle (said folk-sel). The rear castle was called the stern castle and it housed elaborate living quarters for the officers. The crew lived in crowded rows below deck. The stern of the boat was often ornately carved painted in gold and bright colors. A galleon had three tall masts - the foremast, the mainmast and mizzenmast at the rear. Galleons were both warships and trading boats and carried huge numbers of cannon and troops. In the 1500s, huge Spanish galleons crossed the Atlantic carrying gold from the Americas to Spain.

Skyscrapers

Thursday, June 19, 2008
The first skyscrapers were built in Chicago and New York in the 1880s. A crucial step in the development of skyscrapers was the invention of the lift by US engineer Elisha Otis in 1857. The Home Insurance Building in Chicago, built in 1885, was on the first skyscrapers.

The Empire State Building, built in New York in 1931, was for decades the world's tallest building at 381 m.

The tallest building in America is the 442 m-high Sears Tower in Chicago, built in 1974.

The world's tallest building is the 542 m Petronas twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A tower now being built in Sao Paolo in Brazil may be the world's tallest at 495 m. If the Grollo Tower is built in Melbourne Australia it will be 560 m high.

The Colosseum

Friday, June 6, 2008
The Colosseum was a huge stone sports arena built in Ancient Rome. It was 189m long, 156m wide, and 52m high. It held 50,000 to 73,000 spectators who entered through 80 entrances. Each spectator had a ticket corresponding to one of 76 arcades. The sports included fights between gladiators with swords, nets and other weapons who fought to the death, or fought against lions and other wild beasts. Counterweighted doors allowed 64 wild beasts to be released from their cages simultaneously. It took just eight years - from around AD70 to AD78 - to build the Colosseum. To build it the Romans brought almost a quarter of a million tonnes of travertine stone by barge from quarries 20km outside Rome. During Construction, a cart carrying a tonne of stone would have left the riverside wharves every seven minutes on the 1.5km journey to the site. A huge awning called velarium, supported by 240 masts, protected the arena from bad weather. Its opening was celebrated by spectacular games lasting 100 days.

Things We Should Know

There are a lot of things that we should know. That's why i came up with this title. And since i want to broaden my knowledge in just about anything, so i will try to share everything that i know or will still learn in the future here. It may come from a book or somewhere else. For as long as it is something worth knowing and worth to ponder to, then rest assured, i will put it here. Hope i will help you in any way that i can in bringing things here that we need to know.
